How To Become a Sales Champion

How To Become a Sales Champion

Whether in reality or fiction, we have all loved watching a champion succeed on the sporting field or the movie screen.

We admire these athletes for their tenacity and talent, and cheer them on when they accomplish their goals.

For many people, the thought of emulating these champions seems like a far-fetched dream.

But it’s time to stop thinking that way. It’s time to start believing that you can be a champion and achieve the dream life you desire.

And your career is an amazing vehicle for helping you achieve your dream life.

Whether you are in Banking or any other Sales Profession, you should always strive to be a champion and to achieve your personal goals.

Here are FIVE tips on how you can become a Sales Champion:

  1. Define YOUR Championship Goals

What does “Being a Champion” mean to YOU?

It’s important that you define your own championship (personal) goals and standards. Make them lofty, aspirational and achievable.

Don’t necessarily pursue the “ideal” notion of champion and/or compare yourself to your peers. Make your definition of champion personal.

Winning YOUR championship must be something you CAN achieve. Maybe not this “season” but definitely within the next 3 – 5 years.

  1. Develop Unwavering Belief

Believe that your great solutions (products) are highly appealing to your target market.

Believe that selling is a highly noble profession.

Believe that you will become a champion!

In order to become a champion you need to be confident that you can perform the activities required for success.

And your confidence is significantly influenced by your mindset – or beliefs.

Every sports champion has an unwavering belief they can win a championship. Therefore you need to believe that you can also achieve your championship goals.

  1. Take Massive & Focused Action

We all know that to win a championship takes lots of hard work. That is why it is so important to define your championship goals because no-one wants to work that hard unless there is an incredible reward.

But it is also important to make sure your sales activities are focused. Consider what specific activities will help you better engage, persuade and retain customers.

Collaborate with other Bankers or Sales People to determine the right types of activity for your market …. even if that means stretching beyond your comfort zone.

Now commit to bravely performing those specific activities a specific number of times each month.

To become a champion you need to be willing to stretch yourself to perform a high number of specific activities every day, week and month.

  1. Train & Practice

Tiger Woods wins championships because he learned how to master a golf swing. And he continues to learn how to do it better.

Tom Brady wins championships because he learned how to master throwing a ball. And he continues to learn how to do it better.

For a Banker or Sales Person to become a champion they must learn how to master customer meetings. And continue to learn how to do it better.

Bankers undergo lots of compliance, product and credit training ….. yet they receive minimal training for the one skill they must master to be highly successful …. how to conduct a highly engaging customer meeting.

If the greatest athletes continuously train to improve their most important skills …. then it’s important you continuously train to develop your sales skills.

  1. Find a Coach

Every champion has a coach …. and every champion thanks their coach (and family) when they win a championship. Why? Because nobody can achieve extraordinary results without guidance and support.

It’s important you find a coach. Whether it be your Leader or an external mentor. Find someone you can trust. Someone who can provide you with moral support and constructive feedback.

Regularly review your activity with your coach and seek guidance on how to conduct that activity (ie. customer meetings) better.
